Actually Karen, Granddad Firestone gave you a 1970s something Ford Falcon or a Fairlane. Granddad never bought Chevys. As far back as I can remember, he always owned Fords. I do remember it was a very well-kept car and I’d have loved to have had it. Remember, I put myself through school as an auto mechanic so I know it was a Ford, not a Chevy. Sorry.
I’ll write a story or two about the Corvette in the future. It was a really cool car–and FAST!

Chad would kill to own most of these! Remember Granddad Firestone’s Chevy Nova he gave to me? Yea, well Chad had a fit when I told him ED and I sold it and bought a Hyundai. Stupid things we do in our youth! LOVE that ‘58 corvette!! My all time fave. dream car is the Stingray, so guess they’re kissin’ cousins.

What a nice story. I also remember your Mom as being very quiet and do remember when she passed away. The year before that my “Pap” died in January and I remember Kathy coming by the funeral home with the Brownie/Girl Scouts. I remember at the time your Mom passed it was sad because she was so young and had to leave you kids. That you so much for sharing your thoughts about your Mom.

David, Kathy is correct that Mom passed on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. If I remember correctly we were able to arrange for flowers (yellow roses) to be in church the next day in her memory. For many years after that we put yellow roses in church every Mother’s Day in her memory.

Thanks the corrections. Was Mom’s “almost swear word” “darnit?” If it isn’t, I don’t remember. Cool about the china cabinet. Did you restore it? I’m surprised that I’m wrong about her dying on Mother’s Day. I’ve always believed (in my mind) that it was Mother’s Day.

I enjoyed reading your memories of Mom. I have some of the same and of course some different. I do, however, want to correct a couple things. Mom was 41 1/2 when she died, and she died on a Saturday, the day before Mother’s Day. The store in Rochester was G.C. Murphy. She may have met Dad while working there, but I think she also worked for a time in an office in Rochester.
Remember the only thing close to a swear word that she would say? Good Night! (It was usually followed by ‘Kathy’!
By the way, I have that dining room china cabinet in my basement.
